How do I use RealAudio to optimize my listening pleasure in Cafemuse?

Using RealAudio is key for enjoying a visit to CafeMuse. To see if you have RealAudio 3.0 installed on your computer play the test sound below.

Sound: (02") – play this test sound.

What happens? If the RealAudio Player opens and you get sound, GREAT! You're almost ready to rock'n'roll. Go to set your preferences.

If you don't get any sound or an error, then you have an older version installed. Go to the installation/upgrade instructions.


How do I obtain and install RealAudio Player?

RealAudio 3.0 format is what we use in all of our audio. It is free and available for both Mac (OS 7.x) and Windows (3.11 and Win95).

Get RealPlayer RealAudio Player and the RealPlayer are available here. Get your system administrator to install this software for you if you have any doubts about doing it yourself. If you don't have one, then follow the installation/upgrade instructions below.

When installation is complete, the final step is to set the RealAudio Player's preferences.

How should I set my RealAudio Player preferences?

O.K. You're either one of the lucky ones who already has RealAudio 3.0 installed or you've survived installing it yourself. Congratulations! The final step is to tweak the RealAudio Player's preferences. Follow the instructions below:

Windows

  1. Open the RealAudio Player.
  2. Select View near the upper left of the Player. A pull-down menu appears.
  3. Select Preferences, then select General.
  4. Set recent clips to 25.
  5. [ If you have purchased RealAudio Play Plus or RealPlayer Plus - set PerfectPlay/Buffered Play to 20 seconds. ]
  6. Select OK to finish, you should come back to the main RealAudio Player screen.
  7. [ If you have purchased RealAudio Play Plus or RealPlayer Plus - select File in the upper left of the Player, you will get another pull-down menu. Then select PerfectPlay, it should have a check mark next to it indicating that it is active. ]
  8. Voila! You're now ready to explore CafeMuse's near-CD quality sounds.

Mac

  1. Open the RealAudio Player.
  2. Select Edit near the upper left of the Player. A pull-down menu appears.
  3. Select Preferences, then select General.

TIP: The most effective way to use the RealAudio Player is to first load all of the sound files that you or your students will use. Then with the RealAudio Player open, select File in the upper left corner, you'll get a pull-down menu. Select Open Recent, all of the files you've loaded will be there for you to choose from.
